The grannies hit the road once again! And once again (for the 9th time) I will be joining them as they cycle down the Island, from Campbell River to Victoria from September 7th to 9th raising financial support and awareness of the struggle that continues with HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa
Countless African grandmothers have been left with the task of raising their orphaned grandchildren. As a grandmother of seven, I have little difficulty imagining the economic, physical and emotional burden of feeding, housing, clothing and schooling their grandchildren. However equally important is the emotional and psychological challenges these women face....grief over the loss of their loved ones to AIDS, despair over the sole responsibility of providing for their grandchildren, and often loneliness as the result of being stigmatized by their community. As well as providing help with material necessities, SFL works with organisations at the grassroots level to provide the psychosocial support these women need to cope with the present and focus on the future.
And so....I am asking for your support to reach my fundraising goal. To make a donation, please click on the "Donate Now" button above the thermometer. Tax receipts will be issued to Canadian residents for donations of $20 or more.
